Jim Erwin is a veteran of the U.S. Special Operations Forces, including service as a 1st SFOD-D (Delta) Operator.

He was part of the 1st SFOD-D selection course – where he was ultimately one of five candidates chosen from a class of nearly 100.

He also served as the ranking NCO for a military free fall platoon with a Long Range Surveillance Company.

Erwin was awarded the Distinguished Honor Graduate of his U.S. Army Sniper Course while serving with 2/75 Ranger Bat. He also served as the ranking NCO for a military free-fall platoon with a Long Range Surveillance Company.

After leaving active duty, Erwin provided close protection and security for high-profiled clientele across the globe including many high-threat environments.

He is a certified FBI Advanced Firearms Instructor, and has earned several instructor certifications for the NRA. Erwin is the owner of the Shooting Performance Institute.

Jim Erwin’s basic defensive concealed handgun course offers basic insight into moving off the line of attack, reaction to threat & and engagement techniques, along with teaching various shooting proficiency drills to help you maintain acceptable accuracy and recoil management. Jim is a Nevada resident who travels as often as possible to help California CCW permit holders, though is still limited due to scheduling. So don’t miss out on a truly unique training experience!

Jim’s basic handgun course is packed with fundamentals that can elevate your shooting! Students of Jim’s basic handgun class can expect simple yet effective drills that help reinforce basic skills and can help track your progression, along with a vast amount of information on proper shooting grip, sight alignment & sight picture, firearm manipulation, and proper trigger control.

Shooting while remaining motionless is often quite manageable and it’s the most common course structure for firearm instructors. It allows to the instructors to teach the fundamentals without the added stress to the students who need to focus on the basics of shooting. But shooting is only a small percentage in a fight. Once you understand the fundamentals and can perform easily while static then the next step is to learn the essentials of moving, shooting, and communicating (with a large emphasis on communicating and movement). The ability to think and focus on your environment is key in surviving a deadly threat, and moving while responding to the threat exponentially increases your odds of living another day. Enter Jim Erwin’s mechanics and movement course, designed to start your progression in moving your feet and manipulating your firearm with specific drills designed to open your mind and awareness. These drills are very similar to what is often taught to many law enforcement and military personnel in their defensive firearms training.

Owning a handgun isn’t enough to keep you safe in a dangerous situation, knowing how to recognize it and how to respond with your handgun is extremely important. If you prefer to learn in private or a small group, Jim’s private lessons are the ideal way to learn. The lessons will cover what you need to get comfortable and competent with your handgun. It doesn’t happen overnight. Getting started the correct way with an experienced instructor will help you learn quickly and more importantly, correctly.

Rentals Available At The Range. For firearm rentals the purchase of ammunition at the Range is required.
